Mosley’s reasons why he will beat Manny Pacquiao – Glendale Boxing | Examiner.com

While I am writing my stories in Glendale and Manny Pacquiao is training like a machine at the famed Wildcard Boxing Club in Hollywood, Shane Mosley is working just as hard in his training camp at the high altitudes in Big Bear, California.

The two are scheduled to do battle in what is considered the biggest boxing event of this year on May 7th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Less than a month away from the fight night the event is sold out, but don’t worry; Showtime will televise it live via PPV, or if you would like to big in Las Vegas anyways, you could watch in one of the casinos on closed circuit.

So why is Manny Pacquiao training like the man possessed when he is nine to one favorite according to book makers? One would be hard pressed to find a pundit that would pick Mosley to win the fight.

Guerrero makes a statement in a lightweight division – Glendale Boxing | Examiner.com

Gilroy’s Robert Guerrero served notice in the lightweight division dominating Michael Katsidis from Australia over twelve breathtaking rounds in a fight that featured fireworks throughout. All there judges scored the fight for Guerrero 117-108,118-107,118-106, who won vacant interim WBO and WBA lightweight titles in impressive fashion in front of a raucous crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday night. Despite the wide margin on the score cards Guerrero had to dig down deep to keep relentless Katsidis of off him for twelve rounds. “I gave myself a C,” said Guerrero:” There were a lot of things I wanted to do that I didn’t do.” But when I asked what was next for Robert Guerrero, the modest student of the sweet science turned into a confident one.” There are a lot of big fights out there,” continued newly crowned interim champ:” Marquez, I am the mandatory to fight him. Zab Judah just won a 140 pound world title. Mayweather is out there, Pacquiao. There are so many big fights out there.”

Is Erik Morales ready for a big fight? – Glendale Boxing | Examiner.com

Erik Morales would have been a shoe-in inductee into International Boxing Hall of Fame next year if he would remain retired. But like so many other star fighters he just couldn’t stay away from the ring. The lime light of being inside the squared circle, the action attracts the boxer in the same way heroin pulls on the soul of a street junkie. And so, after loosing a disputed decision to David Diaz in 2007 and retiring, Erik “El Terrible” Morales came back last year and up till now had three successful fights against nondescript opposition.

“I am ready for a big fight,” said Morales when I interviewed him in Los Angles last month. Is he really ready for a big fight? We will find out this Saturday night when squares off against a hard punching Argentinean brawler Marcos Maidana at the Mecca of boxing, MGM Grand Garden Arena. Twelve rounds contest for interim WBA light welterweight crown is featured as a main event of exciting boxing card dubbed “Action Heroes”, promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and will be televised live by HBO PPV.

Pacman is in Los Angeles – Glendale Boxing | Examiner.com

Saturday, April second was the night me and Manny Pacquiao arrived in Los Angeles International airport. After a week long vacation in Maui, my wife and I were greeted and driven home by my nephew Dmitriy. After a month long training camp in Philippines, Manny avoided media and fan fair; jumped into a vehicle that was sent to pick him up and went home. It’s back to work on Monday. We both have busy schedules. What else do we have in common? We both love boxing and are expected in Las Vegas on May 7th, 2011. I will be writing while Manny will be fighting Sugar Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in what is expected to be the biggest fight of this year, unless Floyd Mayweather runs out of excuses or money and decides to fight Pacquiao this fall.

Manny Pacquiao duels Mayweather in popularity – Glendale Boxing | Examiner.com

With Floyd Mayweather latest outlandish request for 100 million dollars destroying any real possibility of a fight taking place between the two, at least local residents and boxing fans will find out who wins the popularity contest between Pacquiao and Mayweather. You might be thinking as you are reading this;” Isn’t it obvious?” No it isn’t.

In this case we have a unique opportunity to compare apples with apples when we evaluate how many pay per view buys each of super stars generate facing the same opponent. Last year Floyd Mayweather broke a one hundred million pay per view buys mark when he faced Sugar Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. This year, on May 7th, pound for pound king, Manny Pacquiao will face the same opponent at the very same venue. Will he be able to do better?

Manhandling Foreman, Pawel Wolak proves he belongs – Glendale Boxing | Examiner.com

Back in the ring after a devastating loss to Miguel Cotto,  last year in Bronx, ” The Lion of Zion” Yuri Foreman(28-2-1,2KO’S) out of Brooklyn, New York got stopped again by relentless super welterweight, Pawel Wolak (29-1,19 KO’S) from New Jersey.  The ten round contest was a semi main event (Cotto and Mayorga headlining the show on Saturday night) of the Showtime PPV live telecast from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Foreman’s corner thought he had enough at the end of round six and asked the referee Kenny Bayless to stop the fight. All three judges scored every round in favor of Wolak. “It just wasn’t my night,” said Foreman who suffered second defeat in a row.

It was an action packed first round with Wolak pressing the fight and Foreman boxing and moving .That set the tone for the rest of the night, but Foreman was forced to fight a lot more than he wanted to. Yuri’s faster hands and superior skills were on display in the second, but the Polish brawler pressed the action and made things very uncomfortable for the former champion.” I was trying to put a lot of pressure,” said Wolak after the fight:”I was working hard. My point was to win every round.”
