Erik Morales would have been a shoe-in inductee into International Boxing Hall of Fame next year if he would remain retired. But like so many other star fighters he just couldn’t stay away from the ring. The lime light of being inside the squared circle, the action attracts the boxer in the same way heroin pulls on the soul of a street junkie. And so, after loosing a disputed decision to David Diaz in 2007 and retiring, Erik “El Terrible” Morales came back last year and up till now had three successful fights against nondescript opposition.
“I am ready for a big fight,” said Morales when I interviewed him in Los Angles last month. Is he really ready for a big fight? We will find out this Saturday night when squares off against a hard punching Argentinean brawler Marcos Maidana at the Mecca of boxing, MGM Grand Garden Arena. Twelve rounds contest for interim WBA light welterweight crown is featured as a main event of exciting boxing card dubbed “Action Heroes”, promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and will be televised live by HBO PPV.
