Golden Boy Promotion’s Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer hosted a press conference at the Mandalay Bay lounge to announce a night of boxing featuring a light middleweight battle between Sugar Shane Mosley and Sergio Mora, to take place at The Staples Center in Los Angeles on September 18th, in the eve of bicentennial weekend of 200 years celebration of Mexican Independence. The lounge was packed with fans and media in anticipation of another great battle between Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz.
“September 18th used to be Oscar’s day,” said Mora (22-1-1,6KO): “now it is going to be my day! I am going to bleed, but I will everything I need to do to win.”Mora praised his opponent, a hall of fame fighter Sugar Shane Mosley for always opening his gym and his knowledge to him.” It is an honor to fight Shane Mosley. He is a warrior and one of the best fighters of our era.”
“ Mora has been in my gym and eyeing me since he was 1-0,” said Mosley(46-6,39KO’S), whose last performance at the Staples Center produced a brilliant destruction of then undisputed welterweight king Antonio Margarito: “ I am going to give him a chance at the Staples center, in my house.”
Latin Snake Sergio Mora could not contain his excitement headlining an event with his idol, Sugar Shane Mosley.” I am in my prime,” stated Mora;” And I am eager to prove myself.”

“September 18th was supposed to be a fight with Maidana,” said Ortiz (27-2-1,21KO’S), who suffered a defeat last year at the Staples center at the hands of Marcos Maidana:”I accepted it and Maidana turned it down.”
Promoter, Oscar De La Hoya confirmed Victor’s statement about wanting to fight a rematch with the banger from Argentina.” Victor wants to fight the best,” said De La Hoya: “We have to hold him down, but the time will come.”
Another major attraction that night will be Jalisco, Mexico’s Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, a red headed Mexican youngster who has been going through opponents and gaining popularity in Mexico with meteoric speed. Promoter Oscar De la Hoya compared going to his last fight in Mexico to events that featured Oscar in the past with majority of fans being women.
20 year old Alvarez (33-01-1,25KO) has become the most watched fighter in Mexico and plans to win the hearts of American fans. “September 18th is very important to me, “said Alvarez: “I am representing Mexico in this event. I am not going to fail my people.”
