2004 US Olympian Vanes Martirosyan has re-signed a promotional contract with Top Rank.
“Vanes is definitely one of the future superstars in boxing,” Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum said. “We helped develop Vanes during his first five years. Now, with the coaching of the great Freddie Roach, Vanes will be heading to the top level of boxing.”
Twenty three year old, hot super welterweight prospect Martirosyan is poised to do great things. Ever since turning professional in 2005 Vanes has amassed a record of twenty seven victories, seventeen by a knock out and no defeats.
The only thing Vanes craves is a big fight. Last month in Dallas, Texas, Martirosyan was on hand at a press conference to promote Pavlik Martinez bout. Promoter bob Arum suggested that after Pavlik defeats Martinez, the Spaniard could move back down to super welterweight division and defend his title against undefeated Martirosyan.
Not lacking in a confidence department, Vanes has been clamoring to fight the most feared man in boxing Paul “The Punisher “Williams.
Unfortunately Williams is busy preparing for a fight with Kermit Cintron. Cintron and Martirosyan trained together for a year in Houston under Ronnie Shields. Glendale’s Martirosyan got home sick and came back to train under famed Freddie Roach in 2009.
Another prospect Vanes has been wanting to fight for several years is Mexican Olympian Alfredo Angulo, But Angulo is busy as well, preparing for his upcoming contest with Joel Julio on April 24th.
Today, super welterweight division is hot and loaded with talent and presents a lot of opportunities for young prospect Martirosyan. Vanes’s manager Shelly Finkel told me that no opponent has been named yet. I believe that people behind “Nightmare” Martirosyan will make the right choice. So who is next? Stay tuned.
