Bradley vs. Petersen is set for December 12th.

An intriguing light welterweight showdown was announced yesterday at Rancho Mirage, California. Undefeated champion, Timothy “Desert Storm “Bradley (24-0,11KO) will defend his WBO title against an unbeaten challenger, Lamont “Havoc” Peterson (27-0,13KO). Televised live by Showtime Championship Boxing, this battle is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 12th, 2009 at Agua Caliente Casino, Rancho Mirage in California.

“We’ve traveled together and are friends and know each other pretty well but its part of the business,” said Bradley “I had to take this fight. I didn’t really want to take this fight but I had to. Once we get in the ring our friendship is out the door.”

“We do have a lot history together,” said Peterson. “We met when we were like 14, 15 years old. We always had a good time hanging out together. I want to see him do well in his career and I’m sure he wants the same for me but at the end of the day we have to get in the ring and someone has to lose. Someone’s career is going to go backwards.”

What struck me the most was the size difference between the champion and the challenger; Peterson has a three inch height advantage and five inch reach advantage. Would that be enough to best an undefeated champion?

“You’ve got two young undefeated fighters going at each other so I know it’s going to be a great fight,” continued Peterson, who gets his first opportunity to fight for a world title.

What Bradley brings to the table is speed, great conditioning and tremendous work rate inside the squared circle. Aside from that and being a champion, Timothy will have a home filed advantage as he only lives ten minutes away from the venue.

“The first fight here was amazing. I know the crowd will be electrifying and will come out and support me again,” said Bradley, 26:” I just have to keep winning, that’s all. Knockout or no knockout I have to win. I pray every day for a knockout in front of my hometown crowd.”

“I don’t care that he’s fighting at home. Whatever happens in the ring will happen in the ring, said Lamont Petersen:” If I stick to my game plan it will be a good fight so I don’t really have to worry about putting on a good show for the fans or SHOWTIME. Timothy throws a lot of punches and I throw a good amount of punches so when there are a lot of punches thrown you’re going to be assured of a good fight.”

The event is promoted by Gary Shaw Productions. Tickets went on sale Monday and are available for purchase online at or by calling Star Tickets at (800) 585-3737.
